Senior Principal Microcontroller Architect, Radar BU

indie is an Autotech solutions innovator. We focus on edge sensors spanning multiple modalities including LiDAR, radar, ultrasound and vision for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), autonomous vehicles, connected car, user experience and electrification applications.

The design team at indie Semiconductor develops custom automotive centric ICs using ARM Cortex-M based microcontrollers and integrate Analog and mixed signal, RF and Power Management IPs bringing a complete solution to our international customer base. The engineer in this position will join a small team of highly competent engineers that are creating brand new designs in the Radar BU. In this position, the Sr. Principal role is to define, build and validate the future generation of MCU based IPs that will be integrated in indie’s product. The role also includes a part of methodology to drive IP development flow reuse. The job’s responsibility is to work with development team, produce an MCU IP strategy driven by the Radar BU product roadmap (generated by Marketing team) ensuring development or purchase of reusable MCU IP blocks plus closely follow up the development of these IPs from specification freeze, tape outs to qualification, making sure MCU IP strategy is being correctly executed by design team. You will lead the architecture and development of the MCU IP block with the digital design team and strategic co-ordination from the IP Platform engineers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive the definition (product requirements) of indie microcontroller roadmap to align the technical content with Marketing inputs. The scope of work includes engaging directly with existing and potential customers to ensure the system solution fits customer future needs. 

  • Scope and benchmark IP offering from third party vendors (microcontroller cores and peripherals) 

  • Define the overall system level architecture such as core logic, memory subsystems, security, functional safety, interfaces with peripherals and power management. 

  • Support the generation of the development plan and associated deliverables (Firmware, Test plan, Test code, Validation boards, etc). 

  • Write and track requirements in JAMA 

  • Drive the integration, verification (pre-silicon) and validation of the Microcontroller subsystems. 

  • Support product and test engineering teams to test and productize the design. Provides input related Design For Test (DFT). 

  • Provide support and develop FW reference code for verification or validation stages.

  • Desired Master’s degree in electrical engineering

  • 10+ Years of relevant hands-on experience in semi-conductor industry

  • Develop system level architecture, propose RTL (Verilog) implementation and detailed supporting documentation.

  • Strong knowledge of ARM based products (Arm Cortex)

  • Knowledge of security concepts (Key storage, secure elements, AES etc) is a plus

  • Working knowledge of functional safety (ISO 26262)

  • Experience with requirements management systems such as JAMA, Doors, or Polarian

  • Support synthesis, STA, and logic equivalency checks.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital circuit simulation tools and front-end environments, particularly Cadence based.

  • Programming in Ruby, Python, Perl languages

  • Outstanding communication and  teamwork skills
