The design team at indie Semiconductor develops custom automotive centric ICs using ARM Cortex-M based microcontrollers and integrate Analog and mixed signal, RF and Power Management IPs bringing a complete solution to our international customer base. The engineer in this position will join a small team of highly competent engineers that are creating brand new designs in the field of wireless and USB power delivery, sensing systems and connectivity within the car.
In this position, the technical director role is to define, build and validate the future generation of MCU based IPs that will be integrated in indie’s products. The job’s responsibility is to work with development team, produce an MCU and Security IP strategy driven by the product roadmap ensuring development or purchase of reusable IP blocks. This function reports locally to the VP of Design Engineering in Edinburgh and to the functional VP of Digital Design in CA.
Drive the definition (product requirements) of indie microcontroller roadmap to align the technical content with Marketing inputs. The scope of work includes engaging directly with existing and potential customers to ensure the system solution fits customer future needs.
Bridge the gap between hardware and software architecture with a focus on re-usable tool chain and platform content.
Support system architecture definition with respect to security and functional safety including core logic, memory subsystems, hardware security systems, interfaces with peripherals and power management.
Drive and/or support innovative security features implementation for large and complex designs across multiple platforms with re-use and homogeneity in mind for reuse and future proofing.
Support the definition of security life cycle management and help assess potential vulnerabilities in ASIC design and supply chain to prevent breach of trust.
Scope and benchmark IP offering from third party vendors (microcontroller cores and peripherals)
Support the generation of the development plan and associated deliverables (Firmware, Test plan, Test code, Validation boards, etc).
Actively participate into the integration, verification (pre-silicon) and validation of the Microcontroller subsystems.
Support product and test engineering teams to test and productize the design, including supporting Design For Test (DFT), Design For Manufacturing (DFM).
Provide support and develop FW reference code for verification or validation stages.

Master’s degree in electrical engineering
15 Years of relevant experience
Develop system level architecture, propose RTL (Verilog) implementation and detailed supporting documentation.
Strong knowledge of ARM based products (Arm Cortex).
Knowledge of ISO 26262 process framework (FTA, FMEDA, FMEA) and tools such as JAMA and Medini.
Knowledge of Cyber security standards including ISO 21434.
Knowledge of security concepts (Key storage, secure elements, AES, Product Life Cycles)
Demonstrated knowledge of digital circuit simulation tools and front-end environments, particularly Cadence based.
