Analog IC Design – Principal Engineer (Boston)

Location:

Greater Boston area (Massachusetts) preferred but exceptional candidates located remotely within the same time zone will be considered

Job Overview:

Do you enjoy working in a creative fast-growing entrepreneurial environment? With indie you´ll never walk alone! We place high value on our teams and pursue excellence for our employees and customers!

indie is an Autotech solutions innovator. We focus on edge sensors spanning multiple modalities including LiDAR, radar, ultrasound and vision for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), autonomous vehicles, connected car, user experience and electrification applications.

We are seeking a talented and motivated analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer to join and grow our new Boston Design Center. This is an exciting opportunity to develop challenging and innovative ICs in a fast-growing startup environment, where your contribution directly drives the success of the Boston Design Center and indie Semiconductor as a whole.

Job Responsibilities:

You will take ownership of large-scale or complex IP designs from beginning to end, participate in the IP system-level definition with marketing and customer-facing teams, perform system/design architecture or transistor-level feasibility studies and balance tradeoffs, analyze and drive IP design requirements to meet or solve gaps in existing IP, and quickly generate robust area-efficient circuits that meet their specifications. As needed, you may also lead a small team of junior design engineers on the IP design. As part of the design process, you will also build behavioral models of both analog and digital circuits, collaborate with the layout team to ensure good physical implementation of your circuits, and complete analog/mixed-signal simulations that verify your IP as well as the top-level blocks integrating your IP. To promote a strong IP reuse approach, you will thoroughly document your IP design, drive bench/production test plans and assist in a detailed evaluation and debug of your IP. You will also be expected to help identify, contribute, or lead a task force on continuous improvements in the design flow and methodology. Our ideal candidate is both an effective team player and team lead, works efficiently and achieves progress despite limited or ambiguous information, and displays sound engineering judgement in all aspects of their role.

Job Requirements

With us, you must love being part of an organization where everyone makes a difference and contributes to the company's success. Creativity, Ownership and Excellence are what we value.

These are the skills and know how an ideal candidate would bring. We understand that nobody is perfect! After all, your new job should challenge you and you should have the possibilities to grow.

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of experience in analog/mixed-signal IC design within the semiconductor industry

  • Proven track record of implementation on first-pass functional silicon on at least 5 analog ICs in one or more CMOS/BCD processes, with design lead or project management experience on at least 2 of these ICs

  • New IP generation and architecture or system-level definition experience. Knowledge of ESD protection techniques is a plus

  • Strong lab skills paired with experience in debugging and evaluating silicon

  • Solid grasp of analog circuit design fundamentals and theory

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of industry standard design conventions and design for manufacturability (DFM) practices

  • Good proficiency with transistor-level circuit design tools like Cadence Virtuoso, AMS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously yet not independently. Prior experience at a startup company or a small team environment is a plus

  • 7+ years of Power Management IC design (LDOs, switch-mode power converters, battery chargers, etc.), or design experience with high-voltage or automotive products is a plus
