Analog PMIC Principal Design Engineer (Edinburgh)
Job Overview:
Do you enjoy working in a creative fast-growing entrepreneurial environment? With indie you´ll never walk alone! We place high value on our teams and pursue excellence for our employees and customers!
Indie Semiconductor is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in the design of innovative mixed-signal System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for automotive applications.
Our design team develops custom and standard SoC solutions for automotive applications which integrate advanced digital ICs (Arm®Cortex® MCUs and/or DSP) with mixed-signal devices into a single System-in-Package (SiP). The mixed signal can include power management, RF, high voltage as well as high speed convertors allowing us to provide complete solutions to our international customer base.
You will join a small team of highly competent engineers that are creating brand new designs in the field of wireless and USB power delivery, sensing systems and connectivity within the car. You will be responsible for managing and executing all activities associated with the concept, development and validation of power management IPs for the company. Given the wide range of applications that indie Semiconductor design and manufacture, you should thrive in an environment with various system and transistor level technical challenges with use of multiple process technologies. The company success is based on a design team that can quickly assess new system requirements and derive effective techniques to meet the cost, quality and time to market targets.
You will report to the Analog IP Design Director.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Participate in the system definition of complex power management IPs by assessing architectural options and tradeoff. This includes active discussion with indie’s customer teams as well our Marketing team to optimize future design needs.
-
Derive and design effective circuit implementations to meet the design target within the scope of the project. Assist with the writing of associated specification, design review, test requirements and documentation.
-
Key decision maker in determining IP block requirements. Evaluate technical merits for re-use of exiting IP versus need for development of new designs to achieve desired specifications and product performance targets.
-
Perform design of sensitive or critical transistor-level circuit implementations for new or repurposed cells, in particular for those in the control loop.
-
Lead circuit designs and help/support more junior team members. Share and promote best practices.
-
Help improve the design quality, flow, and processes for first time design success and high yield manufacturability (DFM). Willingness to lead some task force to improve design flow.
-
Build behavioral modeling of analog and digital circuits and complete mixed signal simulations for verification of chip level and system level performance.
-
Define layout requirements for layout engineers and drive task completion.
-
Test, characterize, and de-bug designs in the lab as necessary.
-
Must love working within a small entity where everyone makes a difference to the company success.
-
Close collaboration with other design team members including system, application, software, lab and ATE test engineers. Interact with end customer and marketing to provide IC expertise as needed.
-
Because of remote nature of the position, must be able to work autonomously and with limited supervision while still staying in close collaboration and communication with the team.
-
World-class knowledge of ASIC design techniques including power partitioning, ESD, noise mitigation techniques, etc.
Main Requirements:
With us, you must love being part of an organization where everyone makes a difference and contributes to the company's success. Creativity, Ownership and Excellence are what we value.
These are the skills and know how an ideal candidate would bring. We understand that nobody is perfect! After all, your new job should challenge you and you should have the possibilities to grow.
-
Master’s degree in electrical engineering with strong analog IC design background.
-
More than 12 years of design experience.
-
Strong knowledge and experience designing core PMIC related IPs such as Switching mode power supply (buck, boost, buck-boost, chargers, motor drivers), as well as foundation IPs such as LDOs, Bandgap, POR/BOR.
-
Demonstrated knowledge of transistor-level analog circuit simulation tools and frontend environments with extensive experience with Cadence Virtuoso.
-
Demonstrated capabilities to build and execute top level AMS test benches.
-
Demonstrated ability to characterize and troubleshoot IC designs in the lab.
-
Demonstrated knowledge of BCD (Bipolar, CMOS, DMOS) silicon process technologies.
-
A knowledge/experience of Automotive related constraints such as ESD, EMC, functional safety requirements and design techniques to meet such constraints is a plus.
-
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
